React Native vs Flutter: Picking a Cross-Platform App Development Partner
August 21, 2026 · 7 min read
A practical framework for choosing between React Native and Flutter — and for judging companies that claim both.
Start from hardware and team shape
Both frameworks ship excellent production apps. React Native suits teams with existing web/TypeScript strength and heavy backend integration. Flutter suits teams that want pixel-identical UI and high-frame-rate custom interfaces. Neither is the reason a project fails.
You can mix
Most larger builds are cross-platform with native modules for the two or three things that genuinely need them: camera pipelines, wallet passes, background location, offline sync.
How to test the claim
Ask a candidate company to walk you through how they handle a native module they had to write themselves, and what they do when a popular plugin goes unmaintained. The answer tells you whether they are a framework team or a plugin assembler.
