Integrating Mobile Apps with Legacy Policy Admin Systems
February 11, 2026 · 9 min read
Guidewire, Duck Creek, Applied Epic or a 1990s mainframe — patterns for making an app fast on top of a slow core.
Never call the core directly from the phone
An integration layer gives you caching, retries, rate limiting, field mapping and a stable contract that survives your next core upgrade. Mobile clients should never know your PAS vendor's name.
Read models and write queues
Project the data policyholders read constantly — coverages, ID cards, billing summary — into a read store refreshed on change events. Writes go into a durable queue with idempotency keys so nightly batch windows never lose a payment or a claim.
Design for eventual consistency in the UI
Show pending states honestly. "Payment submitted, posting within one business day" beats a spinner that lies about being real time.
